Living where we do, we get all sorts of storms. Rain storms, thunderstorms, blizzards, etc. Tons of fun. Can you say anxiety? And I cant even drink at the moment to calm myself. What kind of storm makes you want to curl up into the fetal position? Nothing has ever scared the crap out of me like tornado warnings. Wind is the scariest bastard out there. Besides anyone on bath salts, obviously.
When I was little and if a storm was particularly nasty, my mom would bundle my sister and I up in the car and head to my aunties house all the while pretending not to panic. She tried to hide her concern but it was obvious how much she hated storms, mostly from the wet spot on her pants…. JK mom xoxox. We would then camp out in my aunts basement for a few hours while my mom tried not to scare the shit out us by pacing around the basement or whispering to my aunt about the storm. I was usually more scared of any spiders that may be in the basement or how long I was going to have to hold my pee for.
I don’t recall having TVs or radios in the basement but these days I am not totally sure how necessary they. My trusty iPhone and I are a well oiled team. I have three weather apps downloaded. I’m hooked up to twitter and follow all of the local hash tags. I have Facebook and Instagram so I can see everyone’s photos of the sky as well as the obvious status updates “Wow, it’s really coming down!” or “I wish my husband was home!” ………. That would be me.
Also, I have Pinterest, so I could look up recipes and crafts in the middle of a tornado if need be.
Having all of this social media means I am always (usually) connected. Which in the case of storms, isn’t a bad thing. I don’t have to shut off the tv and sit infront of the radio listening for a warning to get in my basement. I dont have to have the tv on the weather channel while my daughter wonders what the heck is going on and why aren’t we watching Yo Gabba Gabba.
The past two days we’ve have thunderstorm watches and warnings and tornado watches. So far we haven’t seen more than a few cm of rain, some lightening and a few loud bangs. Let’s hope it stays this way!
Currently it’s raining again with more thunder and the wind is picking up.
I’d totally take a photo and upload it but I’m a big ass baby, so here’s a photo of George with a tiara.
